About Giikin

With over 1,000 employees in Zhengzhou, Xi'an, Beijing, Qingdao, Kunming and Dongguan, Giikin’s e-commerce products cover 10 major categories, and exports to Southeast Asia, the Middle East, North America, and other regions.

With its advanced technology system, experienced operation and marketing team, Giikin accurately locates and efficiently promotes the products provided by suppliers through international network platforms and channels; combined with a well-managed supply chain system and efficient international logistics services, Giikin has rapidly developed into one of the pioneers in China's foreign trade e-commerce field.

Business pain points

Giikin mainly uses social media software for advertising and marketing in the form of single-page products. Therefore, the traffic of the entire business platform is huge, and the monthly CDN fee is over tens of thousands of dollars.

Due to frequent business changes and complex business lines, Giikin has not had a unified picture processing service, and has not adapted pictures to the terminal.

Value to customers

Under this circumstance, Ultrapower, as the consulting partner of AWS, alongside with AWS provided a detailed analysis for Giikin, and recommended the overall solution of serverless image service developed by Ultrapower based on CloudFront and lamda@Edge to Giikin.

This solution does not require users to change the existing code. By using Lambda@Edge and CloudFront, it can achieve image adaptation for different clients. It can be adapted according to the size of the client computing and the terminal whether it is necessary to resize the original image or provide a smaller size webp Format picture.

The overall solution of the picture service is as below.

Compares with the exemplary solution provided by AWS, the production-level image processing solution provided by Ultrapower only calls the Lambda@Edge function in the Origin Request, which greatly reduces the cost.

Solution

In this project, Ultrapower, as an AWS partner, provided Giikin with a serviceless image unified service solution and corresponding migration services.

As shown in the architecture diagram, the solution takes AWS CloudFront, Lambda@Edge, and S3 as the core and integrates CloudFormation, CloudWatch, WAF and other functions to provide customers with one-stop image services, including adaptive format conversion (jpeg / png to webp), and flexible image size conversion.

Achievement

After migrating to this solution, the CDN traffic has dropped by nearly 30% compared to prior to migration, which greatly reduces the cost of operation while the advertising and transaction volume of customers continued to growth.
